To whom it may concern,

I have known Mr. Joel Kass for many years and have been able to appreciate both his rectitude and honesty and his remarkable talent as a painter. Though my own field is in science (genetics) and philosophy, I have long been a lover of literature and the fine arts, which has brought me in close contact with many artists.

The moment I saw Mr. Kass' paintings I knew I was in the presence of a unique and authentic painter, a vigorous and original creator, with a bold, rich and arresting manner. Mr. Kass has an unmistakable style of his own, be it in his monumental triptics and murals or in his more intimate works. I take pride in having acquired several of his paintings. They occupy an honored place in my collection, alongside classical, modern and contemporary works by recognized masters.

In addition to his large and varied production, one should mention Mr. Kass' “Shoah paintings", a body of works all its own, created when, after many years (like other Shoah survivors), the artist felt compelled to return over and over again to the nightmare of buried memories. Those Shoah paintings have been shown several times in Europe, particularly in Germany. They are to be on exhibit again next fall in Antwerp (Belgium).

Mr.Kass has had a busy career and his works won wide acclaim in many parts of the world, in particular in South America. He is now at the peak of his artistic maturity, and in my opinion his unique creativity would enrich the American art scene, while the artist would be further stimulated by a close contact with the broad spectrum of art in the States.

Very truely
